I am writing to you on behalf of the entire student community of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). With deep sorrow, I put forward the bad news about Mr. Anand Narain Pandey being diagnosed with Blood Cancer. Mr. Anand Narain Pandey is a 3rd year PhD student in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He has been referred to AIIMS, New Delhi and was admitted there on April 21 for further investigations and treatment.

Anand's condition was critical, and the treatment began on April, 24th. As you must know, Cancer treatments are extremely costly and in Anand's case, the estimated cost for full treatment is around INR 2,500,000 (approx USD 60,000). Consequently, it is impossible for his family to shoulder the cost alone. So we, at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, are trying to arrange for funds from all possible sources so that we can pro! vide financial support to Anand's family.

Anand is a very bright student. He is a silver medalist from Banaras Hindu University. He comes from a middle class family and is the eldest of 3 sisters and 2 brothers. His father is a lawyer in local court and is not able to pay the required amount of money for his treatment on his own.
